May 5 – May 12, 2025 (Extended Version)

Brother Jansen, a young Chinese Indonesian from Surabaya, was originally scheduled to return home on May 5. Although he was born and raised in Indonesia, he had never traveled beyond Java to the more remote province of West Kalimantan. He was deeply touched after spending eight days with us visiting rural areas in West Kalimantan. Sensing the Lord’s prompting, Jansen made a bold decision to change his return flight and voluntarily stayed an extra week to join the extended portion of our mission trip. Though none of us had planned for this in advance, we later realized it was clearly God’s timely provision - not only did Jansen step up to serve as a translator during discussions between K-PACT Canada and GKNI PNIEL PONTIANAK - greatly helped with communication and mutual understanding - but he also had the unexpected opportunity to join a rural interior mission visit that left a lasting impression on him.

From May 5 to 12, Pastor Sam Chan, Pastor Anthony Yeung, Judith, Jansen, and Samuel remained in West Kalimantan for four to seven additional days. A major purpose of this extended stay was to continue exploring a potential joint project between K-PACT Canada and GKNI PNIEL PONTIANAK in developing an seniors and medical care initiative.

Over three days, multiple vision-sharing meetings were held in various settings - including with the church’s pastors, board members and church leadership. During the Wednesday night Prayer Meeting, we also shared openly with the congregation. Brother Samuel, with his professional background in seniors care and medical project development, provided valuable insights on emerging concepts in Seniors Living Project, expanding our understanding of the possibilities for seniors care ministry. His contribution brought clarity and expanded vision. We continue to pray for God’s leading in this project’s next steps. May God’s will be done and all needs be provided according to His perfect plan.

The final part of the “extended version” was a three-day, two-night interior mission experience which was physically challenging but spiritually enriching. After the vision meetings concluded, Pastor Anthony and Samuel returned to Canada, while Pastor Sam Chan, Judith, and Jansen stayed to take part in this journey. Led by local mission workers and joined by Pastor Liliana from GKNI PNIEL Pontianak and a few church leaders, a group of ten travelled to Nanga Pinoh, a town in the Melawi Regency of Central-Southern West Kalimantan, to visit GKII Batu Buil Church. This interior mission trip gave everyone deeper insight into cross-cultural mission work in Indonesia. We were especially inspired by meeting various local missionaries:

• Pastor “I”, who courageously shares the gospel among the Malay ethnic group, a population largely Muslim.

• Pastor “D”, a former devout Muslim who came to faith in Christ after encountering Jesus in his dream. He has since planted five churches in the “S” region.

• A Christian photographer, who brings the gospel to the Madura people, a distinct ethnic group.

• A faithful Christian Uber driver, who uses his job as a mission field to witness to his Muslim passengers.

These devoted servants of the Lord offer their lives as living sacrifices. They are shining examples of what it means to be a missionary. They are willing to answer God’s calling – to go, to serve and to proclaim the gospel. The Lord is raising up workers across all regions and backgrounds. His work is wondrous and worthy of all praise.
